About

I remember when I showed up to my first appointment for counseling as a client. I was nervous, embarrassed, and feeling defeated. In that moment, my physical body carried those emotions in that it felt on edge, almost willing me to get up and leave the counseling center. I also remember the connection I made with my counselor during that first session, and how I knew that is what I needed for that season of life. I know that for most clients, showing up to their first (or second, or fiftieth..) counseling appointment is terrifying. For many, it feels like they don’t know where else to go, what to do, or who to turn to. I am passionate about making a real connection with clients that meets them right where they are at and begins to create in them something necessary for any change–hope. I mostly grew up in the southeast part of the United States, however I spent my high school years in the country of Albania where my parents moved our family to serve as missionaries. Exposure to a different culture greatly impacted the way I think about the world, others, and even God. I received my undergraduate degree in psychology and Bible from Columbia International University, after which I got a job as a police officer with the Columbia Police Department in South Carolina. I worked with that department for almost eight years involved in street patrol and the field training program for new officers. During that time, I developed a passion for first responders and the unique needs they have due to the innate stresses that come with the job. To be a part of meeting that need, I went on to get my master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling through Liberty University. I now work with individuals, couples, and adolescents on a variety of issues to include trauma, relational difficulties, depression, and anxiety to name a few. I bring all of my previous life experiences into my identity as a counselor, and I am passionate about helping others integrate their own experiences in life. On a personal note, I am married with one son and two dogs. We enjoy being outdoors, going on walks, hikes, or runs. Personally, I love watching sports, comedy tv shows, and whatever is newly released from Star Wars or Marvel (I’m a “nerd” like that). I also really enjoy discussing theology, philosophy, and how those two come together. Wherever a client is coming from, I look forward to getting to know them, meeting them where they are at, and working alongside them to achieve their personal growth goals.
